Our club has been established in Shrewsbury since 1970.
The style of karate that we practice is Shito-Ryu. This is also sometimes known as Shukokai karate.
We are proud of the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that exists at our club, it is very important to us!
Our club is a member of the Shito-Ryu Shukokai Union (SSU).
This ensures that we comply with government recognised national guidelines relating to safety and quality of tuition.
Our national association is in turn a member of both the European and World Shito-Ryu Shukokai Unions. This enables us as both individuals and a club to attend courses and competitions in Europe and Japan.

Chief Instructor at the club is Chris Mileham, sensei 6th Dan.
He began his karate training in 1972 and was graded to the rank of 6th dan in June 2000 by Haruyoshi Yamada, 9th dan Hanshi, World Chief Instructor.
As well as being Assistant Chief Instructor of our national association he is the General Secretary of the European Shito Ryu Shukokai KarateDo Union
He has had a successful competition career in karate having represented Great Britain in team kata at the WKF World Championships and the SKU England team in many international matches.
In 1989 he was the English Karate Board All Styles National Kumite Champion.
He was also the Shukokai Karate Union National Kata Champion on three occasions and Kumite Champion twice. More recently he has coached younger club members to national success.

As a club we teach in the traditional way with equal emphasis placed on both a students character and physical development. Traditional karate does not focus solely on the competition side of the art; rather it concentrates on the tried and tested techniques and disciplines that have been developed over many centuries. However, as many younger students like and need the challenge of competition we cater and encourage them in this area as well.

To guide all students through the different stages of their training we have a comprehensive grading syllabus. This is designed to build on all previously learnt techniques and disciplines and enables students to learn in a very structured and step by step way.

The syllabus has been developed over many years and is very successful.
Our aim is to produce a Capable, Spirited, and Healthy student with a Sound and Pleasant character.

We cater for all ages from 6 to 60 + and the karate we teach is equally suited to male and female students.

Classes are split to ensure best teaching methods can be used to suit each class.

The club holds regular grading exams in Shrewsbury, encouraging students to maintain their progress through the grades and ensuring that when ready, there are no lengthy delays before being graded.
Additional courses and seminars are also arranged on weekend dates to specialise and focus on more specific areas of karate.
We are able to provide new members with a comprehensive membership pack when they join our club, full of useful and interesting information!
The club is happy to be able to meet all your requirements regarding karate training if and when you decide to take it up.
